    Different types of roulette

So that you can truly compare French roulette odds to other types of roulette, let’s quickly run through the three main versions of the game:

    Play French Roulette online

    French roulette

In almost all ways, French roulette is identical to European roulette. But French roulette also gives you the chance to win some or all of your bet back when you’re unlucky enough to hit the zero without betting on it. This is what makes French roulette the best version.

    American roulette

In short, American roulette is the version of roulette you want to avoid whenever possible. It’s similar to French roulette, but it has a ‘double zero’ as well, which massively increases the house edge.

    European roulette

European roulette is very much like French roulette. The wheels for each are identical and so are most of the bet types. However, European roulette is much easier to find than French roulette.

    What makes French roulette special?

Our experts have been very clear that you should play French roulette wherever possible, but what is it that objectively makes this the best version of roulette?

It’s fairly well established that European roulette has more favourable odds than American roulette because of the wheel design. French roulette uses the same wheel as European roulette, which means it is automatically better than American roulette.

The only things which distinguish French roulette from European roulette are two rules: ‘la partage’ and ‘en prison’. To learn how to win at French roulette, read on:

    La partage

If you place an even-money bet like red/black or odd/even, and the ball lands in the ‘zero’ counter, you’ll receive 50% of your money back. So, if you bet CA$50 on red and it comes out green/zero, you’ll get CA$25. It’s extremely rare for a casino to give you cash back after placing a losing bet, so this is an amazing perk for those of you who place a lot of outside bets.

    En prison

Don’t let the name throw you – ‘en prison’ is actually a very positive thing for players, giving you even more benefits that ‘la partage’!

En prison is similar to partage: bet on an even-odds outcome, and receive 50% back if you hit the zero. However, en prison also gives you a second option. Instead of taking 50% back as cash, you have the choice to instead spin again, for the same bet and stake. So, if you bet CA$50 on black and it comes out as zero, you can re-spin (without paying anything extra) and, if it hits black, you win as if the first spin had never occurred.

If you hit a zero and opt to re-spin, then hit another zero, the en prison rule does not come into effect the second time. Hitting two zeroes in a row counts as a loss. However, the odds of doing this are 1,369/1 – so it shouldn’t affect you very often, if at all.

    Where to play French roulette

Because of the awesome la partage and en prison rules, French roulette is certainly the best type of online roulette available to players in Canada and beyond. But where can you find it?

    Where to find French roulette

French roulette is somewhat rare, both online and in person. Many players barely even know of its existence, and are much more familiar with just European and American roulette. But wherever you find French roulette, you should favour it over the others.
